Term 6- Sports Day!
Before we dive into the main event of the week (Sports Day), please can we draw your attention to what is proving to be a complete mystery that has left us scratching our heads.
One of our Robins has lost a trainer - here is the lonely trainer that is in our classroom waiting for its partner to reappear. On a serious note, please can we ask you to check and double check all bags just incase it has slipped into someone else's bag....even older siblings. Thank you.
Now onto the highlight of our week
(We did do our transition visits and French and Mystery Reader - thank you to Everly's Dad, however, the star of the week was most definitely sports day)
Ready........steady......go!!!
We could hardly believe that the week of sports day was already upon us, so it was time to take things seriously and take part in one last practice! On Monday morning we went onto the field and were introduced to the 4 races that we would take place in....
- The quick running race!
- The slow and steady egg and spoon race!
- The up and down hurdles race!
- The daily mile long race!
We were warmed up and ready to go......finally the morning came and it was time to separate into our houses to create all the cheer materials we would need to decorate our house gazebos!
After all that craft making it was time to have a quick healthy snack that was very kindly donated by the PTFA before we headed off ready for our warm up!
In the morning Robins took part in the carousel of activities, from the goal kick where they showed off their ball skills to the throwing of the vortex, where they had a go at seeing how far they could throw! They had 2 different bean bag throwing activities, one into hoops on the floor and 1 into 3 standing hoops...how many points could they get? With a standing jump and a running jump we sure did practicing our jumping! It was a full morning of sport and there was certainly something for everyone with plenty of smiles to go around, with everyone showing us their Christian values!
What a wonderful morning we had!
After such a busy morning it was soon time to spend a sunny lunch with each other on the back field feasting on sandwiches and treats that the PTFA were selling! It was lovely to see the back field come to life with all the chatter amongst the picnic blankets!
Despite the ever increasing temperatures we were soon ready to take on the afternoon races, so out we went and into our house gazebos! The scores at this stage were extremely close, any house could take the title....but who would it be?
Race time!
We were in our houses and as the races began we were first to show the other years how it was done and wow what a first impression Robins made! They were fast, they showed skill and they showed sportsmanship! We showed all of the school that sports day goes far beyond who comes 1st, 2nd and 3rd and just enjoyed taking part!
It was soon time to pick up our spoons, place our eggs on top and get our 'slow and steady' wins the race hats on! It was of course time for the Egg and Spoon race, the cruelest of all the races.....
It was soon time for the hurdles and Robins were jumping as if they were gazelles, over the 1st, the 2nd....
it was soon time to face the highest of the hurdles! Did this worry our Robins? Of course not they ran towards it with determination, taking a leap across the hurdle and landing on the other side, running towards the finishing line faster than we could even say 'how fast can we run the hurdles'!
After an increasingly warm afternoon it was soon time for the final race and our Robins who are well practiced in the Daily Mile were ready for their Long Track Race!
On your marks....get set.......GO!
They were off, there wasn't much between them at the start and it was lovely to seem their beaming smiles as they went round the first bend!
It was lovely to see Robins enjoying every minute of sports day, including when Mrs Brown and Mrs langford took part in the rather wet teachers race!
