Term 5- Week 4 Science Week!

23 May 25

Summer Term One comes to an end......

We can hardly believe that we are in the final week of Summer Term 1, time is simply flying by!

What a week we have had! This week, of course, has been Science week and this year the 'theme' was about animal adaptation....what a big word that it is!

"What does adaptation mean?"

We talked about animals being the best they can be for their environment, for example......

"I've got long legs and a long neck so that I can reach up to the tallest trees to get food"

"I've got sharp claws so that I can dig in the ground"

Robins loved taking part in some under the sea yoga on Monday and then on Tuesday used their knowledge of adaptation to create their very own animals out of junk modelling, thinking carefully about what habitat their animal would live in.

"I'm going to need a long neck to reach the tall trees"

"Mine lives under the sea, it needs fins"

Just look how creative Robins were!

In Forest school this week one tiny fluffy thing caught our eye, for some of us it truly captured us and we spent most of our time admiring it, from as close we were allowed, can you guess what it was?.........

It was the little duckling who had come to visit our pond for the afternoon with his Mummy and Daddy! He was terribly cute, but it did mean that we needed to be extra careful when exploring the pond and mindful of the duckling's safety. At one point he was left by himself and all of a sudden his Mummy and Daddy were making a rather loud quaking noise....we thinking they were cross that he didn't follow them!

However once the excitement of the duckling had subsided we were set a challenge! As Mhairi handed each of us a card we were almost bursting with excitement, what could be on the cards? As we read our cards we realised that all of them had different words on them, from crunchy to soft, wet to wow!

We were set the challenge of finding something in Forest school that represented the word on our card! Off we went on an adventure.....

We also made our very own wooden log animals today using an actual saw to cut the wood! Mhairi taught us how to safely work with her to saw back and forth until we had sawn through the log! We then used pens to give our animals facial features before completing our animal by adding an all important lead, just to make sure it didn't run off!

When Robins weren't watching the ducklings or making their own log animals, they could be found in the outdoor kitchen or most probably large areas of mud that had simply engulfed Forest school this week! It really was taking stuck in the mud to a whole new level, but Robins it is fair to say loved every minute!

Here are some more of our Forest school memories.....

And of course - we still found time in this very busy week to have our Mystery Reader. Another huge thank you to everyone who has taken part so far and a huge thank you in advance for those who have kindly signed up ready for next term. Last week it was Everly's Grandma who read the story (completely forgot to mention it last week - I am so sorry!) and this week it was the turn of Maddie's Grandma.

We hope you have a wonderful half term break and look forward to seeing you all on Monday 2nd June (through the main gate!)
