9th May

We have had a very busy week in Owls class! Two sporting events, VE day celebrations, rehearsals with Lottie, lots of other learning and all crammed into a four-day week.
We were continuing to build our toolkit for writing newspaper reports this week. Our focus was contrasting witness statements and detail to keep our reader interested. Today we practiced writing a whole main body for the report on flying frogs – there were some fantastic efforts. In Maths, we have moved on to hundredths. We were writing them as fractions and decimals. Next week we will make sure we are confident when representing hundredths in different ways.
In Geography, we started to learn about how we use land in the UK and we used 100 cubes to predict what we thought. We were surprised that most of our land is used for agriculture.
I asked the questions ‘Will plants grow without leaves?’ in Science. We couldn’t agree on an answer so we set up an investigation to see what will happen if a plant has no leaves. Can it still make its own food? We made sure we had the same plant with leaves so we can compare the two.
Design and Technology was all about weaving with wool. We practiced a tabby weave and then an Egyptian knot weave. There were some tangles and some frustrations but the children had a really good go at completing it.
In PE the children were taught how to triple jump. I think we might have some Jonathan Edwards' in the class!
Have a lovely weekend.
