6th June

This week has been jam packed with learning! Well done to the Year 4’s for completing their times tables check. We also had an amazing rehearsal for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory on Tuesday – the children are beginning to really know their lines. Please keep encouraging your child to learn and practice them – its only 11 days until the performance!
In English, we have started to explore rags to riches tales with a focus on Egyptian Cinderella. The children were able to make predictions just by looking at the front cover and reading the blurb. We then looked at how the author uses action to move the story on. The children were able to use 3 different techniques to show action: verb starters, subordinating conjunction starters and 3ED sentences. During the story, the main character is very different to the other servant girls, so we also used comparative phrases to show their differences and similarities. In Maths, we are still focusing on statistics but have moved on to line graphs.
In RE, we have started to look at stories and meanings or lessons they can give the reader. The children discussed their favourite stories and what they can teach us. Our History is all about the Ancient Egyptians this term. We focused on when the ancient Egyptians were alive and the fact that started off as two Kingdoms (Upper and Lower Egypt) but later became one civilisation. In Science, we took apart a flower so we could investigate what was inside. We found the stamen (anther and filament) and the stigma.
The children loved the workshop about kindness today and were able to make some amazing gifts for other people. In DT, our weaving is complete and the children were able to evaluate what they had created. We thought about what weave types we have learnt and how successful our final weave was.
Have a great weekend.
