Wow it’s been a hot week! It hasn’t stopped Owls from working their socks of though.

In English, we have designed our potions by carefully thinking about what they will do and the ingredients we will need. After that, we planned out the language we will use, focusing on adverbials of time, place and manner to give more detail. We even tried to use subordinating clauses that were acting like time adverbials! In Maths, we have been converting the 12-hour clock to the 24-hour clock and vice versa. It has been tricky but the children have persevered. Towards the end of the week, we also converted minutes to seconds and hours to minutes using our knowledge of the 6 times tables to help.

Our focus this week has been Science and History. On Tuesday Science was all about how harmful the Sun can be so we used our knowledge to create posters to inform people of these dangers. We also explored shadows – I asked the question: How are shadows formed? After some interesting discussion and drawing around shadows on the playground, we concluded that it is when something opaque blocks the light. Today we investigated what happened to the shadow if we moved the light source closer and further away. Again there were some great discussions!

We finished our Ancient Egyptian work this week. Once we had explored Ramses II, we learnt that no other pharaoh really came to close to being as powerful and then the Romans invaded and took over the land for over 700 years. For our final lesson, the children were able to research the Ancient Egyptians and turn this into a double page spread.

Have a lovely weekend.
