We have had a fantastic week! The highlight was obviously visiting Chapman’s Chocolate Factory. We all enjoyed the walk down to Chaddleworth site and when we went in we explored the different rooms we would be working in. The children were able to design and make their wrappers using ideas we had seen in our Design and Technology lessons. They had to think about font, colours that would appeal to the consumer and what information would be needed e.g. ingredients. While they were designing their wrapper, the children came in pairs to the cooking room to melt their chocolate and add their ingredients.  We discussed why we needed to melt the chocolate and we agreed that if we didn’t our ingredients wouldn’t mix in and create a bar. Once the moulds were full, we placed them into the fridge to set. At lunch time we enjoyed playing on the field and the adventure playground. It was lovely to see the children laughing, rolling and running around.

On Thursday, we looked at our wrappers and evaluated them – we asked the questions – was the font eye catching and clear, were the colours bold and did we have the correct information? As soon as this was complete, we took the chocolate bars out of the fridge and wrapped them in foil and then the wrappers that we made. Obviously, the last thing we needed to do was eat! Some of the children decided to take them home for later, but most ate their chocolate bars. The ummms could be heard from far away. We did realise that the caramel sauce was very runny and some of us got very messy.

Have a great Easter and enjoy the sunshine.
