What a lovely week!

Lottie came on Tuesday and we rehearsed scenes 3 and 4. It is looking incredible and the back stage children have now been given their very important jobs. The details of the day will be sent out next week, but please be aware it is an evening performance on Tuesday 17th June.

In Maths, we continued to explore hundredths. We drew them, compared them and used our knowledge of them to solve problems. This learning was then linked to money and the children were able to go ‘shopping’. Please continue to encourage your children to practice their times tables at home. In English this week, we were able to do a lot of showing off of our writing skills. We completed our own newspaper reports. Some were based on flying dogs and others were about rabbits stealing carrots. We also wrote recount letters from the frogs in the story Tuesday to explain what actually happened on that Tuesday night. Today we ended the week by writing fairy tales. We used lots of word banks to help write some fantastic sentences.

Science was all about observation this week! We observed our plants that had some requirements taken away. We were confused that the cup with 1 seed was not growing. After taking the soil out, we struggled to find the seed, but then we found what looked like 3 seeds starting to open up at the bottom. It left us all very confused. Next we checked the plants with no leaves – we measured their height and learnt that they have grown since the leaves were removed last week. We will keep checking them. In our new learning, we discovered that roots don’t suck up nutrients and water like a straw, they actually absorb it through all their surface. We also observed that roots are covered in tiny hairs.

In Geography, we recapped our knowledge of land use and then looked at how land use in the UK has changed. We discovered that we are changing our land to make way for more farms and artificial surfaces. Sadly, we then found out that this is affecting food chains and causing our biodiversity to reduce. Owls were outraged, so we have written to our local MP Mr Lee Dillon to see if he will help with our ideas to improve this problem. We have suggested planting wild flowers on road verges and in some park areas and to encourage litter picking.

In PE, Coach Tom taught us how to throw the shot put and other throwing techniques.

Have a great weekend.
