Ist December

Chill December brings the sleet,
Blazing fire, and Christmas treat.

A very chilly December is here (and we are forecast sleet Saturday into Sunday).....

and all the awe, wonder and magic that comes with it has begun!

Let the countdown to Christmas  begin!!

As we neared the end of November Jack Frost certainly decided to spread some frost across our school and we felt the chill in the air! As we wrapped up warm we knew we were edging closer to December and could almost feel the magic in the air as we continued to practice our Nativity! But we were certainly not finished with November yet and this week in Maths we absolutely loved developing our understanding of the concept of cardinality- that the last number that we count tells us how many things there are altogether, and we loved playing our counting game against the timer! As we turned over the card we quickly subitised and then counted out the right amount of objects for that number but we had to be quick and beat the time, we were very impressed by the accuracy of Robin's counting!

As we crept closer to December it was time to start painting our salt-dough Christmas decorations, so we carefully painted around our fingerprint imprints that we had made last week and then selected different colours to represent the lights on our trees. We took our time to make sure that the colours didn't mix and needed to be really patient and wait until the paint had dried before we could put the finishing touches to them, you'll have to wait to see the final decoration!

This week we continued to enjoy constructing using the Lego and Duplo, "Look Mrs Brown, I made another one of those tall buildings from London!"

Look at how our cutting skills are coming along! We are getting really good at remembering to turn the paper and not our hand. "Look mine's a stegosaurus!"

Also, this week we celebrated – St. Andrew’s day. We learnt that St Andrew was a fisherman and was the first of Jesus’s disciples, we watched a short video of two brothers celebrating St Andrew’s day, they wore traditional kilts, enjoyed traditional music and dance (ceilidh) made some shortbread and enjoyed some warm and delicious porridge. We then made our way into the hall where we found a large piece of paper with a white cross - the St Andrew's Cross or Saltire. It is a school tradition that on St Andrew’s day we bring in silver coins and decorate the flag of Scotland with the coins, we then donate the money to Great Ormond Street Hospital. Thank you so much for giving so generously.

In Show and Tell this week we were introduced to Myrtle the dog - who loves her food. We also heard about the size 11 tap shoes and the pink tutu dress. We love Show and Tell and the questions come in thick and fast!

As we waved goodbye to November and said hello to December what a surprise we had on Friday morning. It would appear that somebody, quite possibly Santa's Elves, had been into our classroom overnight and had created a magical winter scene complete with a blazing fire! We were all so excited and could not wait to explore our new area and start writing our Christmas lists!

And finally....the Nativity is coming together nicely!

Have a lovely weekend - perhaps we will see many of you at Chaddleowrth tomorrow - wrap up warm, it's going to be a cold one!!!!

See you all on Monday.
