End of Term 3!

We can hardly believe that we have reached the final week of Term 3! Where has the time gone. Despite this being quite a short term Robins have certainly come on in leaps and bounds with their learning in all areas, especially in writing where they have been writing more and more every week. This week one of our new sounds was the 'ear' trigraph, see if you can think of anymore words at home and have a go at writing them down.

In Gymnastics this week Robins were thrilled when they saw that the climbing equipment was out and couldn't wait to have a go on the ropes! They each had a go at moving in different ways along the bench and then pulled themselves up onto the ropes and held the three gymnastic positions; the pike, straddle and tuck, some of us even had a go at turning upside down on the ropes!

This week we learnt all about Chinese New Year and how this year is the year of the Dragon! Robins enjoyed a Chinese food tasting session, trying some new food that they hadn't before and recognising some that they had shared at home with family in the past. This week we called our cooking club, tasting club!

"Mrs Brown, I love the sticky rice the most!"

"I love the spring roll the best."

Of course, this was all part of the build up to the full celebrations that we had on Friday. We read books, both fiction and non fiction, discussed traditional dress and watched short clips and animations all about food, clothes, festivals and stories so that we had a really good understanding and appreciation of Chinese culture and traditions.

Below is one of the short animations we watched. Please feel free to watch it at home with your child and let them talk to you about their learning.

Then on Friday, Mrs Stephenson joined us for our Chinese New Year celebrations. The classroom was adorned with Chinese decorations, we listened to traditional Chinese music, we dressed in red and yellow clothing (the Chinese believe these colours bring good luck). We ate with chopsticks and feasted on spring rolls, noodles and prawn crackers! At the end of the meal we were all presented with a 'lucky envelope' with two 'lucky coins' inside - these can be found in the Reading Record wallets. You will also find in there a half term challenge sheet from the PTFA - one of the challenges is to enjoy a meal with family / friends - well you can probably tick that one off straight away as Friday afternoon we did just that! Just take a look at the photos below.

We have packed so much in to this short term. Please have a very well earned break over half term and come back fully rested and recharged ready for Term 4 - it's going to be even busier!

See you soon!
