3rd May 2024

We started the week on Monday in glorious sunshine and ended on a bit of a soggy Friday afternoon, however, we packed a lot into our week...here are some of our highlights!

This week, the Robins discovered they possessed some magical powers, they discovered they could read 'invisible sentences.'Emily and Isabelle from Red Kites popped in to ask us about our Golden Moments (these appear in the weekly newsletter),whilst they were in our classroom we asked them to read the sentences that were on the board, "We can't read that" said Emily, "there are no words there." Mrs Bell popped in to give us a message so we asked Mrs Bell to read the sentence "I have no idea how to read that sentence" replied Mrs Bell. The Robins were having big giggles at this point as they knew they could read it easily.....try it at home - show your child this picture and ask them to read the sentence.....we will give you a hint - the first two words are .....So he

Monday afternoon we headed into Forest School and this week we were more confident than we were the previous week - we knew what the rules and expectations were and we were ready to just get going with our adventures and exploration.

We also enjoyed more adventure and lots of imaginary play in our outdoor area. It is such a pleasure listening to the children interact with each other, listening to their everyday chit chat, watching how they work in collaboration and how they communicate their thoughts and ideas in order to move their play on - it is fascinating. You can almost hear some of their thoughts in the photos!

We continued with our weekly French session with Madame Wilson, enjoyed the Mystery Reader.....this week it was Kora's Dad - Kora also mentioned this for the newsletter as her Golden Moment and we met George the cuddly dog in Show and Tell - we heard all about George being lost, there were lots of gasps, and then found, lots of sighs of relief, he was found in the cuddly box - well that makes sense!

But the most exciting part of our week was our story writing. For the last few weeks we have been learning to retell the story of The Enormous Turnip off by heart. This week we were ready to put pencil to paper and demonstrate so many of the skills we have been learning almost since day 1 of Robins!!!! We were ready to use and apply all our phonics learning, apply all our handwriting skills and apply all our understanding of capital letters, finger spaces and full stops.

Spolier Alert.....this is the big reveal of how we have learnt to read the 'invisible sentences.'

First we write the sentences on the board in full (first picture)

Next, we discuss which words we can spell independently such as -  and, he, so, turnip and we put fluffy clouds around the words in different colours e.g if it is a phase 4 word, we put a green cloud around it, red for phase 2 and yellow for phase 3 etc (picture 2)

After that we rub out all the words that we know we can spell (picture 3) and really focus on more tricky words and unusual spellings such as - budge and asked - Robins children are certainly not expected to spell these accurately in EYFS!

Finally, we recite the sentence at least three times so it sticks in our head then we write it in our books - this is the sentence we will be writing NEXT week (pictures 4 and 5 are the two sentences we have already written THIS week)

Just take a look at the results.....absolutely amazing and what makes it even better is that they all LOVE doing it!

And finally after all the build up to the writing, we finished off the week by heading out for some fresh air and another good session of chit chat with friends as we walked around the village!

Enjoy the long bank holiday weekend and see you all on Tuesday!
