WEEK 7 TERM 1
Our last full week of the term.
Time needs to slow down.
What have we been learning about this week.....
On Monday we got stuck into our Maths learning with great enthusiasm.
This week, the children explored how numbers can be composed of 1s. We used the stem sentence one and another one makes two, and used unifix blocks, to make towers of two.
Moving on from two, we began to investigate the composition of 3 and 4. Composing and de-composing numbers involves children investigating part–whole relations, e.g. seeing that 3 (whole) can be composed of 1(a part) and 2 (another part). We made collections of items from around the classroom, making sure we only collected three and then we used multilink blocks to demonstrate how many ways we could represent 4
Also on Monday morning, in worship, Ms. Munday retold the story of the lost sheep. The shepherd had 100 sheep and 1 went missing, we all listened and we all enjoyed the story and the links to our Christian Value of Community. Monday afternoon, we went on our welly walk and as we emerged from the side of the village hall, there were sheep in the field - eyes were wide - were these the sheep from the Bible story that Ms. Munday had read in the morning? We could hear lots of counting (not quite getting as far as 100 but we were hitting numbers in the high twenties). The conversations that happen on a welly walk always make me smile - sometimes I can make sense of them and other times I have no idea what they are talking about - but I still smile- just lovely lovely times that are certainly not lost on me.
After our walk, we were hungry, of course we were, so we opened a pack of crackers, gathered our equipment - chopping board and butter knife, spread the butter and ate! A perfect end to our perfect day.
On Tuesday morning, Mr Mandry was back for his last session with us and this week as well as swinging and climbing the ropes, balancing on the benches we were tunnelling our way across the hall floor - very exciting indeed.
In Phonics, not only are we learning our letter sounds, we are learning our letter formation and have even started to write simple cvc words. At home, try and aim to consolidate the Phase 2 'speedy sounds' and 'tricky words' every night and dip into your reading books at least three times a week. After half term we will be moving onto Phase 3 so we are hoping that everyone will be ready for the next jump.
For the last Friday of Term 1 we finished off with colour mixing - we have this down to a fine art now.
Before we sign off for the weekend - just a quick reminder to say that next week - we are only in on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and on Tuesday morning you are all very welcome to join us in school for our Harvest Worship at 9.00 a.m.
Have a great weekend (enjoy the disco tonight) and see you all on Monday.
