TERM 5 WEEK 1

17 Apr 26

Welcome back to a new week and a new term - and what a week it was!

Thank you to all of you (parents), it was a very busy week and yet you all took time to ask us how we were and how everything was going - we felt your support and we truly appreciate it.

So.....what did Week 1 of Term 5 have to offer in terms of our learning. Well, our Rainforest area had a little bit of a make-over with more of a focus on our storytelling area. This term we will be learning the story of The Gingerbread man off by heart so that we can recite it using our story props during independent learning. The children did not waste any time getting into storytelling mode!

On Monday afternoon, we continued with our very popular Show and Tell, this week we heard all about ballet, horse riding and dog walking. Listening to the children speak with such confidence, in full sentences and with such rich language, reminds us just how far they have come since September.

And of course, this term we have introduced one of the most exciting sessions of all - Mystery Reader! We welcomed Mrs Liddiard into the classroom to read our end of the day story.

I wonder who we will welcome next week?

In Maths, we have been looking at doubling - double 2 makes 4, double 3 makes 6, double 4 makes 8 etc, we looked a doubles on a dice and made some double patterns on butterfly wings - it took us a few goes to perfect.

We have also started to think about capacity. We used the vocabulary "full" and "empty". The children then had a go at finding out the capacity of different containers using unifix cubes. How many unifix cubes could they fit in a container? We discussed how the bigger the container was, the more unifix cubes we would need.

In Art, we were thinking about repeating patterns. The children enjoyed creating spring caterpillars. The caterpillars had repeating patterns for their bodies which the children printed using paint.

During our afternoons, we quickly settled back into doing what we do best - sharing, caring, problem solving, co-operating, conversing, creating, welly walking and so much more - yes , we were learning outdoors and loving every minute of it - or as Rupert put it "This is the life." Rupert - we could not agree more, we have most certainly been living life in all its fullness.

Have a fantastic weekend and rest - ready to do it all again and more next week.
