TERM 4 WEEK 5
Another week and another term has come to an end.
It was a really fun and enjoyable week!
We started off writing shopping lists and then moved on to 'the school office' - just something as simple as a telephone and some pieces of paper and they were off! The phone was ringing non stop and the messages were coming in thick and fast - and they were all being written down (such a great way to get the children writing). The 'telephone conversations' were hilarious - children were being recorded as being 'poorly' (mainly chicken pox from what I could overhear) and were offered advice such as keeping the children as clean and germ free as possible - only washing the children in hair conditioner and keeping them off school for 6 months! What pleased me the most though, was the vocabulary, the sentence structure, the sharing and turn taking of the phone and just the pure enjoyment and engagement of all the children.
Of course every Monday comes with added excitement - Show and Tell. This week we experienced another WOW moment. We were introduced to the world of motor cross. We watched a video clip and had so many questions, we even got to touch the actual helmet. Excitement levels off the scale!
After Monday, we turned our full attention to Easter - making sure our Easter gardens were ready for the Church service and that our daffodils and Easter cards were ready - all whilst filled with the anticipation that perhaps, just perhaps, the Easter bunny would put in an appearance towards the end of the week.
This week in maths, the children were consolidating their learning about mass and weighing. The children used balance scales and had a go at trying to make the scales balance. The children tried hard to remember that when weighing an object, you don't put lots of cubes in the containers all at once. You have the object being weighed on one side of the scales and on the other side you put the cubes in one at a time until the scales balance. Once the scales balance, you know the mass of your object being weighed by counting the number of cubes. The heavier your object, the more cubes it will weigh.
Also this week the children all learnt how to make a mask. The children learnt how to cut out the face, make the ears etc. There was discussion around whether masking tape was best for sticking things on the mask or whether glue would be best. We also went over our skills of cutting masking tape. It is best if you stick the end of the tape and pull the roll toward you. You can then easily cut a piece of tape. There were a lot of Easter bunnies coming out of school at the end of the day!
Hold on.....was that a flash of white fur we spotted out of the window! It absolutely was - yes on Friday we saw the Easter bunny and she had hidden Easter Eggs all over the place for us to find. Mrs. Bell had crocheted baskets for everyone and off they went, basket in hand, not a care in the world other than to find the egg - exactly as life should be at this age.
What a fabulous way to end a fabulous term.
We wish you all a very Happy Easter, enjoy the break and see you all on Monday 13th April.
