TERM 4 WEEK 4

20 Mar 26

To kick off the page this week, I would like to start by saying 'thank you' to everyone for attending parent's evening appointments throughout the week. I thoroughly enjoyed discussing your child's learning with you and you too were also immensely proud of what your child has achieved.....so far, there is still lots of exciting learning to come!

So what did the learning look like this week ?

We started with another fantastic Show and Tell on Monday. We heard about a medal, a special toy and then we were introduced to a very special autograph book - we learnt what an autograph is and then we were wowed when we discovered that Cinderella, Anna, Pluto and so many more had actually signed the book!

On Tuesday, we were celebrating St. Patrick's Day and we added another flag to our collection. We drew comparisons between what we had previously learnt about St. Andrew's Day and St. David's Day and discussed the similarities.

Each nation has a colour - Green for Ireland, Red for Wales and Blue for Scotland.

Each nation has a symbol - Shamrock for Ireland, Dragon for Wales and a Thistle for Scotland

Each nation has a traditional celebration on their Saint's day - Irish Dancing in Ireland, Twmpath and Eisteddfod in Wales and a Ceilidh in Scotland.

I know I have told you this before, that every morning we look at the map of the United Kingdom and we locate these nations on the map before looking at the weather in Great Shefford. The children are really enjoying how all this learning links and is intertwined.

St. George's Day in April will complete the nations of the United Kingdom.

On Wednesday, it seemed as if we were having a '"No pens day Wednesday", all our learning was 'hands on' really immersing ourselves in the learning. In the morning Rev. Matt joined us for our learning. We were creating Easter Gardens in preparation for our Church Service next Wednesday. We revisited the story and fully understood the significance of what we were about to create. Mrs Langford set up 3 'stations' which were resourced with stones, mosses, compost, bases and then we as adults were able to step back and marvel at how the children worked in small groups, how they supported each other and how they engaged in meaningful discussion.

Wednesday afternoon, we were making smoothies. Penny and Helen joined us again to support with our learning. First we decided what sort of flavour we were hoping for, would it be banana, strawberry, blueberry.....? Soon we were chopping, scooping and blending - blending with a difference. Penny had brought the smoothie bike - the faster we pedalled the more the fruit was blended! There was so much enjoyment and laughter as well as squeals of excitement when we found out we could make the blended whir all by ourselves.

We continued with our Phonics, Reading, Maths and Worship throughout the week as well as our Library and Pantomimus session. We also created a little Springtime art that we will share with you in the Church Service.

With all this talk and prep for the Church service next week it seemed sensible to take the children to the Church for a pre visit. So that is exactly what we did, we hopped onto the mini bus on Friday afternoon and headed to the Church. Again, we were making comparisons and discussing similarities, this time between St. Andrew's Church in Chaddleworth and St. Mary's Church in Great Shefford. We entered the Church to lots of wow's and gasps of amazement - we discussed the pews, the stained glass windows, the organ pipes, the alter the hymns- the children's eyes were wide and the questions were coming thick and fast.

Have a wonderful weekend and see you all on Monday - for the last week of this term - time is going too fast.
