TERM 3 WEEK 1
....and so we're back!
Happy New Year to you all.
At approx 8.00 on Monday morning, myself and Mrs Langford decided that rather than dive straight into Phonics, we would welcome the children in at 8.45 and at 9.00 we would spend quality time with the children hearing all about their Christmas break, all the presents, all the treats all the family time stories (and as much as we enjoyed hearing all the Elf on the Shelf stories pre Christmas, we were secretly relieved that there were no more - I am sure as parents you too have breathed a sigh of relief, although, we have to say, your imaginations are wonderful...some of the stories - no lets no go back there until next year!!!!).
The week started off so well, we settled into our routines and learning, and all was calm. We embraced the VERY cold weather conditions, we looked at the weather forecast and decided to set up our scientific experiment of placing water outside and checking it throughout the day to see if it was still water or whether it had turned to ice. No, every time we checked it was still water. We would have to check the next morning.
And then on Tuesday we were hit with SNOW - chaos and excitement took over and of course there is only one thing to do - get outside and enjoy the experience. Yes, the water had turned to ice too.
It seemed quite appropriate that the weather should have been so cold as our 'Understanding of the World' topics (as seen on your Curriculum Maps which you should have received this week), we are learning all about different habitats such as the Arctic. Our small world area is set up ready and throughout the term we will be reading lots of fiction and non-fiction books to deepen our understanding and further our knowledge.
And as if by magic, in PE this week we were being Polar Penguins and had to listen to our instructions and respond to the command
Penguins on ice
Penguins into the igloo
Penguins swim
I wonder if you can tell from the following photos which command we are responding to. We then visited different 'Polar Regions' where we had to develop different skill such as 'kicking snow into an ice cave', 'throwing snowballs' 'getting into an igloo', safe to say we had lots of fun.
We also spent some time this week using and applying our fine motor skills, using small tools such as the paintbrush and pen.
This term we will have a real focus on writing cvc words such as cat, dog, dig - take a look at some of the things we do in school and have a go at home too, as well as keeping up with all the reading, we are really noticing how the reading is coming along so thank you so much for all your support at home.
So that was Week 1 ticked off the calendar. Have a great weekend and we look forward to Week 2.
See you Monday morning.
