TERM 1 WEEK 5

10 Oct 25

This week has been all about Phonics, Phonics, Phonics.

I want to start off with a huge thank you to those of you who were able to attend the phonics workshop this week - turnout was great, your enthusiasm was terrific and we just know that with your support we are going to have a class of super readers. Please don't worry if you didn't make it - we will catch you in parent's evenings next week - nobody every really escapes from 'the phonics talk'.

So how did the rest of the week unfold - lets find out......

Well as I have already mentioned, it was all about the phonics. We now have quite a few sounds embedded into our memory and we are using these sounds to read simple CVC words and play some phonics games.

Our fine motor activity this week involved picking up pom poms with tweezers - not as easy as you might think!

Write Dance is a pre writing programme that teaches the physical skills needed for writing. Each week we have listened to a piece of music called The Volcano, we have swung our arms, twisted our wrists and flicked our fingers up and down. Just ask your child to show you or talk to you about their volcano dance. Before the end of the term, we will 'draw' our volcanoes in time with the music, they won't be like any other volcanoes you have seen before - we draw them with crayons in BOTH hands! Watch this space as we will soon show you what we mean.

Here we are doing the Volcano dance

On Wednesday we headed off to St. Mary's Church for our Harvest Service. It was a lovely service, full of song, movement, readings, thankfulness and community. Rev. Mike and Rev. Matt, welcomed the new Robins into the Church and School communities and presented them with their very own Bible.

Living life in all its fullness

In Art and Design, the children went on a walk around the school grounds using their binoculars that they made last week. We went looking for autumn colours. The children were very excited when they saw red leaves through their binoculars! When we got back to the classroom, we then looked at how we could mix autumn colours, for example yellow and red make orange and green and red make brown. There was some lovely language from the children describing the colours that we saw, for example, "golden".

In our PSHE lesson, the children were thinking about "gentle hands". We talked about things that we use our hands for and things that we shouldn't do with our hands. We also talked about being able to say "Please stop, I don’t like it” when somebody is using their hands to do something to them that they don't like.

On Friday, we decided to put our hands to very good use and finished off our week pouring, lifting, mixing.....and even tidying up - yes, its taken us five whole weeks (and two days) and we have finally got to grips with the tidying up! A great way to end another week filled with fun and learning.

Have a great weekend and see you all on Monday.
