TERM 1 WEEK 4

3 Oct 25

With so many 'other things' happening this week, (we had flu vaccinations, school photos, House Captain Speeches followed by voting) how on earth did we find time to pack in all our 'normal things'. Well, take a look because we did just that - we packed it all in!

Firstly, take a look at our new House Posters - we created them in our first House meetings last week - they look fantastic.

On Monday, it was a new fine motor activity to complete - follow the pattern with the gems - I think there was more discussion about favourite colours than the activity itself. Developing these fine motor skills is really important because they involve using small muscles that children need when doing things such as manipulating objects, getting dressed and really importantly using tools accurately such as scissors, cutlery and writing / drawing equipment - of course the children don't realise any of this, they just think they are playing!

These moments make me smile - when we see them using their new skills in 'free flow' - here we are mark making and using small tools.

We also had our first Library session. We sat down and listened to a story but before all of that we were introduced to some very specific vocabulary - title, author, illustrator, spine and blub. You may wish to ask your child about these words. This is how we start every book sharing experience.

What do we call someone who writes the story?

What do we call someone who draws the pictures?

What part of the book is this (point to the spine) - do you have a spine, where is it, what does it do?

What is this part of the book called (show them the blurb on the back cover).

The Library book is for you to share with your child during the week - it is a book they have chosen for you to read to them which is really important. Please return the book on a Monday so that they can visit the Library again and choose another one to take home.

Next Tuesday, we are holding our reading workshop for parents - we are looking forward to seeing many of you there. We have a daily learning session of Phonics and we will talk you through it in the workshop.

Sounds taught so far s,a,t,i,p,n,m,g,g,o.c.k.ck,e,u,r - you will see these on the display board as you come into our rainforest area - feel free to stop and look at this in the morning with your children and ask them to explain what it is all about!

In Art the children have been using their cutting skills. They cut pieces of cardboard up which were then rolled to make binoculars. The children then learnt how to tear or cut the masking tape to stick the two rolls together. The children also used a hole punch so that they can add string if they need to. Finally, the children decorated their binoculars with a selection of stickers. Next week we will use our binoculars to go on a walk around the school grounds to see which autumn colours we can find.

And finally we LOVE this display that went up this week - can you guess which is your child???? When you come in on Monday morning, feel free to take a closer look! To help you out a little, we added the wonderful spoons which they decorated at home.

Have a good weekend and see you all on Monday.
