TERM 1 WEEK 2
Our second full week in school and it flew by.
It almost seemed as if we went from Monday straight to Friday and yet there was lots happening in between.
On Monday we were full of smiles despite the rain. Our first activity of the day involved Numicon, matching the pieces to the underlay picture and then creating our own pictures.
We also further developed our cutting skills and all our small hand muscles by getting stuck into the play dough, twisting, squishing, rolling and.......making volcanoes - all it took was for one person to say they had made a volcano and next things they had all made one.
PE - on Tuesday, myself and Mrs Langford were extremely grateful that every item of clothing was labelled. Just getting dressed for PE is always a challenge in the first term - yes there were socks everywhere, t-shirts inside out, back to front, shoes on wrong feet - we had it all. We also had a really great PE lesson on our brand new outdoor equipment. We heard lots of problem solving, turn taking, negotiations and lots and lots of laughter. We also managed to get dressed back into school uniform and were ready by the end of the day. We did not manage to get much else done in the afternoon however as the term goes on we will get quicker and quicker the more independent we become and the more familiar we become with the routine. It was exhausting, but such fun.
We also started our Phonics and Maths learning. Over the next few weeks, the children will be learning more and more sounds and before half term, they will be bringing a reading book home - its so exciting - we can't wait.
On Thursday, Mrs Harris, introduced the children to some painting. The children were learning how to hold a paintbrush correctly like an artist. They then went outside to have a go at painting fruit trees. The children also learnt that it is important not to put too much paint on brush!
Towards the end of the week, the children started their first Jigsaw (Personal, Social and Emotional Development) topic "Being Me In My World". The children were introduced to "Jenie", our Jigsaw mascot for Reception. She will be helping the children with their learning throughout the year. We talked about getting ourselves "calm" and ready to learn. The children also had opportunities during this session to involve Jenie in their play. We talked about how it is important to share.
Finally, to finish the week off - the sun was fantastic so we headed out for some water play.
And just before we go.....please can you check all the PE bags - we have a missing pair of trousers.
Have a great weekend and see you all on Monday.
