8th May
This has been a very busy week; so busy we forgot to take photos!
We have been doing lots of SATs preparation this week. The year 6’s have been amazing and worked so hard. We are so proud of their efforts. Next week, will fly by and I know they are going to do their best. Good luck year 6.
In English, we looked at using tools (mainly adverbials) to improve steps in the method of a recipe and how to write an introduction that hooks the reader in. We then worked collaboratively to plan a recipe for a dish from Narnia. Today, we started writing our independent recipe. Next week, we will complete these. In Maths, we were revising different elements that we have been struggling with such as multi-step problems, checking our learning for mistakes and long division!
In History, we carried on our Viking timeline: their battles with Wessex, the first King of England and then Edward the Confessor and William the Conqueror. In Science, we brought all our learning about the heart, blood and blood vessel together to find out about the circulatory system. We used drama to act out what happens to the blood as it travels around the body. In PSHE, we continued our discussions about friendship; this week was all about how to be a good friend and the traits a good friend has. The children wrote a CV to apply for the job of a friend. They had to remember all the devices we used in English when we wrote CVs in January.
This afternoon, we joined with our houses to find out about Sir David Attenborough and then create a whole school art display based on animals. The children were amazing at supporting the younger children and were very good role models!
Finally, we have started to think about our end of year production – please see this message which was sent out:
We are very excited to be starting to think about our end-of-year play! Without wanting to reveal too much, the play we have chosen this year requires very different costumes to last year and while we will be fundraising to purchase some of them, we are asking for your help with items we might be able to borrow. If you could have a look at home over the next few weeks, we'd be very grateful for a loan of any of the items listed!
We are looking for the following items:
White long-sleeved shirts, ages 9 years to 15 years
Striped apron
Pairs of braces (for trousers)
Flat caps
Trilbies
Bowler hats
Waistcoats (ages 9 years to 15 years)
Long evening dresses (ages 8 years to 12 years)
Suits or suit jackets (ages 8 years to 12 years)
Lace up shoes, brogue or Oxford style (sizes 13 junior to 6 adult)
Two aviator jackets (approx age 10)
A white wig
A long white jacket/lab coat
A gavel (as used by an auctioneer or judge)
A plastic cocktail "glass"
A traditional-style feather duster
Any items will be returned to you after the performance, so please label them clearly so we can get them back to the right home! Of course, if you'd like to donate anything and don't want it back - please do let us know!
Have a lovely relaxing weekend.
