6th March
What an incredible week!
For our English, we focused on ‘The Day the Crayons Quit’ by Drew Daywalt. We explored the features of a persuasive letter and thought about emotions and reasons for those emotions. Next we tried using our year 5 and 6 English skills to up level the letters from the different crayons. We did a fantastic job and were very persuasive! In Maths, we have moved to area of different shapes: compound shapes, triangles and parallelograms. Next week, we are going back to arithmetic.
In History, our timeline continues – the Romans have just left and Britain were left vulnerable. We found out that the Angle, Saxon and Jute tribes came to take our land because theirs was flooded. Ask your child – why did they choose Britain’s land to take? In Science, we learnt that many years ago, everyone thought Earth was flat. We discussed the concept and tried to prove why that was wrong. In PE, we enjoyed dance with Mrs Chrimes and then on Tuesday took part in a hockey taster afternoon. Everybody had a great time and there were some children with very good hockey skills. In Computing, we used sequences to program real life situations. Our focus was to make traffic lights move from red to green and back again to help control traffic.
WORLD BOOK DAY
Yesterday, we took part in world book day! It was amazing. Firstly, thank you for your efforts with the costumes and the story in a jar – WOW! We were lucky enough to meet an author; Leon Mitchell. He led us in a workshop about imagination and signed a poster for us all. Glinda also travelled from Emerald City to meet us. She sang and answered our questions. We were then able to sketch her and draw a thought bubble about what she could have been thinking. Finally, we started a class project: to create our own version of ‘The Jolly Postman’ by Janet and Allan Ahlberg. In groups, we created some post to put in an envelope and wrote one page the story. It is coming together very nicely.
Have a great weekend.
