6th February
What another wet week!
We have not let the weather dampen our spirits though. In English, we started to explore ‘Beowulf’ by Michael Monpurgo. It was all about vocabulary – finding examples in texts, using word banks and a thesaurus to up level words. Using our new list of vocabulary and phrases, we wrote a character description about Grendel. They are incredible! Next week, we are going to write a CV for Beowulf. In Maths, it was all about fractions – multiplying, dividing and finding fractions of amounts. We worked very hard to follow the processes and did an amazing job of answering lots of different types of questions. Next week, our focus will be decimals.
In Science, we learnt all about air resistance. We went outside to see what would happen if we ran holding nothing and then what would happen holding some material. From this, we developed a theory; the bigger the surface area, the more resistance. After, we needed to test the theory, so we used different sized parachutes and timed how long they took to fall. Luckily, our results showed that our theory was correct! For our Computing, we entered the average of our 3 results for each parachute into Purple Mash and created bar graphs to analyse. In Geography, we explored earthquakes and discovered why they occur. In PE, we moved to bowling (with a straight arm). We were very good in our practice and then played a game to show off our skills even more.
For number day, we became detectives! There were 4 suspects and we had to solve mathematical problems to eliminate 1 suspect each round. Some of the problems were quite tricky but we persevered and didn’t give up.
If you have any 500ml drink bottles, please bring them in for Friday (we are making volcanoes!)
Have a lovely weekend.
