What a brilliant week!

The children were incredible at Chaddleworth Church for our Easter service. I’m always impressed with how they get up and talk in front of a church full of people.

In English, we concluded our explanation text unit. We recapped how a volcano is formed and found all the technical vocabulary that we would need. On Thursday, all our hard work came together and we wrote our explanation texts, some including detailed diagrams. As usual, we worked extremely hard to include all our tools from previous learning as well as tools from this unit. In Maths, we have been focused on calculating with decimals and converting percentages to fractions. All we needed to remember was the denominator must be 100 for us to convert it easily.

In History, we researched about village life in Anglo-Saxon Britain. Using our research, we then designed an Anglo-Saxon village, adding notes to explain what was there and why. We had two Science lessons this week; why is there day and night? And Does the moon change shape? We found out that the Sun doesn’t move across the sky, even though it looks like it does. It is the earth spinning on its axis. We also discovered that we have longer daylight hours in the Summer because the Sun is higher in the sky. For our moon lesson, we learnt about the moon phases. In RE, we recapped the 5 major prophets in Islam and talked about what they did.

Red Kites had a great afternoon trying out a couple of Anglo-Saxon inspired recipes on Monday, using our new cooking equipment funded by the Tesco Stronger Starts grant. We all had a go at peeling, chopping, frying or mixing and made a potage (vegetable stew with barley) and honey oat cakes, which were a bit like flapjack. We got to try our meal at the end of the day and it got lots of thumbs up! We really enjoyed making our own food!

This afternoon, we were lucky enough to get a visit from the Easter bunny! We had a great time searching for our own little eggs to put in our baskets (beautifully made by Mrs Bell!)

Reminder – on PE days, which will be Monday and Friday again next term, can you make sure earrings are not worn at all or tape is provided to cover them up. Thank you.

Have a great Easter!
