Wow what a chilly week!

In English, we have completed our short action stories. We made sure we moved action on with dialogue and had characters reacting to each other too. There were plenty of short sentences and mystery noises to add atmosphere and suspense. Next week is assessment week and we will be completing some free writes to show what we can truly do independently. Already some children have mastered brackets and semi-colons! In Maths, we have moved on to fractions. We were able to find equivalent fractions, simplify fractions and convert improper fractions into mixed numbers. The children seem to have a love for fractions because this week we had some of the best lessons in Maths!

In Science, we continued to group and classify. This week it was micro-organisms! We discovered there are 3 main groups; viruses, bacteria and fungi. We looked at their observable characteristics to group them and then we read some research to fill in a table of information. The children thought the viruses under the microscope looked so pretty. In History, we compared the people from Athens and Sparta. Again, we read some information and found differences in how the two city-states lived. In RE, our rites of passage learning continued and we discussed significant symbols from last week’s baptism. We decided that the cross, water, oil, the candle and the white garment were all important parts of a baptism. Next week, we will discover the rites of passage from other religions. On Monday, we had the chance to try out a series of golf games with Mr Mandry from Park House school. We had to try and be as accurate as possible with our swing to try and place the ball where we wanted it to earn points. We could also earn points by showing good teamwork! It was so much fun and we really enjoyed the whole session, even though some of the games were quite challenging! In Computing, our focus was ‘What makes a video game good?’ The children had a list of criteria and then played 2 video games; marking them out of 5 for each criteria. They had great fun playing the games and discussing what they enjoyed and what was frustrating.

Have a lovely weekend.
