17th April
We’ve had a very busy week!
In English, we have started our new unit – fantasy narratives. Our focus has been vocabulary. We have practised conveying a character’s personality using their actions, dialogue and their appearance rather than saying Lucy was a nice girl. As part of the learning, we also recapped setting descriptions and using figurative language to support this. This morning we used dialogue and action to move the story on. In Maths, we finished our learning on percentages; comparing them to decimals and finding percentages of amounts. Then we moved on to angles – recapping the types of angles and measuring them with a protractor. Today we calculated missing angles.
In History, we finished our Anglo-Saxon unit by talking about their religion and the fact that they brought paganism to Britain. Unfortunately, the Pope was not happy with this so sent a missionary to convince the Kings to convert back to Christianity. Some of the children used drama to remind us what the Pope wanted. We also started to learn about Vikings – how they came to Britain and what they did when they arrived (lots of raiding!!) In RE, we started to think about the five pillars of Islam – our focus was monothesism, Ummah and shahadah. The children had lots of discussions and were able to answer questions. PE this week was dodgeball. We practised ducking, dodging and feinting (where you pretend to throw.) In Science, our new unit is based on the circulatory system. We thought about the function of the heart and used play dough to create the correct size and shape of our heart.
Have a great weekend.
