What a fantastic week!

We have crammed a lot in this week. In English, we started our short action narrative unit. Our focus was vocabulary; using it to set the scene and create a tense atmosphere. The children worked really hard on writing some exciting paragraphs to help them try out our new tools. We also learnt about action and character reaction to help move our story forward. In Maths, we explored prime, squared and cubed numbers. We had to use our rules of divisibility and multiplication to help work out if a number was prime or not. Then we drew counters and built using cubes to find out about square and cube numbers. We also practised multiplying a 2-digit by a 1-digit number to help work out cube numbers. Next week, we move on to fractions.

In Science, we found out about micro-organisms. We discovered that although they are living things, they are not classed as animals or plants because they don’t have all the characteristics and have a simpler structure. In History, our journey with the Minoans continued. Today, we looked at how they started to thrive (by trading) and then discovered that they just disappeared! No-one really knows what actually happened to them, but there are some theories. The children had some great discussions to explain what they thought and why. We are lucky this term to have two different coaches leading our PE lessons; on Monday we enjoyed archery. The children worked well as teams and celebrated each other’s wins. On Thursday, we continued with our tag rugby; focussing on running the line and trying to score tries.

Our RE lesson this week took place at St Mary’s Church; we were part of Gemma Louise’s baptism. Each child had a specific role from parent to church verger. We had a fantastic time and learnt a lot about baptism. Thank you to Rev. Mike and Matt for hosting and leading the ceremony. Next week, we are going to find out the symbols of baptism in the Christian faith.

Please take a look back at the blog from 10th October to see which items you could possibly donate for our ‘Christmas Shoebox’ appeal. Finally, thank you for your donations for Children in Need.

Have a great weekend.
