We can't believe how quickly another week has gone! The week started with another fun filled session at forest school. The children had to go on a colour hunt in nature to see what they could find. We then had necklace making, bracelet making and even caterpillar making going on using the conkers and screwdrivers. Some children also had a go at sawing some wood this week.

In maths, Year 1 have been thinking about counting on from any number. This then moved on to thinking about the concept of "1 more". You could have a go at using this language concept at home with your children. Year 2 have been thinking about placing numbers on a number line. They needed to be detectives to find out if we were counting in intervals of 1 or 10 and also look at the number we were starting and finishing on. Once they had this information, they could place numbers on the number line or work out missing numbers.

In phonics, Year 1 have continued working on Phase 4, where there are two consonants together either at the beginning or end of a word. They have also been thinking about the suffix "ing" and adding it to the end of a verb, for example - jump goes to jumping. They have then thought about how this can be used in a sentence, for example, I am jumping.

Year 2 have also been introduced to the story "How To Catch A Star" by Oliver Jeffers. We made a story map together and re-told the story as a class. The children then took it in turns to tell the story to a friend.

In science, we re-capped wild plants and flowers and those that we plant in our garden. The children then all made a flower and were able to say what each part was - the roots, the stem, the leaves, the flower and the petals.

In art, the children continued to develop their skills in the style of Vincent Van Gogh. We looked at how the stars in the painting "Starry Night" had been painted. This week the children used soft pastels to make small marks to create stars. There was lots of smudging to make the stars look like they were glowing. It was quite messy but the children loved using the pastels!

We could hardly believed that we were already on Thursday and it was soon time for our shared reading session and this week was also out final week reading 'Grandad's Island'! As we settled down to find out what would happen on the Island, we soon leant that our predictions of what Grandad and Syd would do on the Island were actually happening!

However none of us could have predicted that Grandad would have decided to stay on the Island and as we all sat back, rather surprised at Grandad's choice we were also delighted to find out that the toucan had brought a letter from Grandad to Syd all the way from the Island! With this in mind there was only one thing for us to do, we did of course have to write letters imagining that we were Grandad!

We can't wait to find out what book we will start next week!

During RE this week we discussed Harvest and why Christians celebrate Harvest. Both Year 1 and Year 2 were fantastic at recognising that it is a celebration of the crops that are collected at the start of Autumn, that it takes place during late September/early October, that we say thank you for the food that we receive and that we share food with people who need it. We talked about different ways we can celebrate at Harvest time, from learning songs, going to church, learning about farming and collecting food for food banks.

In our lesson we thought about what we are grateful for, thinking about the word grateful and what it means to use. Year 1 and 2 thought of lots of things that they are grateful for, here are just a few......

My family, my home, school, my teachers, my pets, food, clothes, my toys, my friends, learning......

Here are some of our pictures.....

We had reached Friday and it was time for PE! In PE this week we continued to develop our fitness whilst working together as a team to complete different activities!

As we worked through our activities from jumping to throwing to running, we talked about how they made us feel! It was also lovely to see Year 1 and 2 come together as House communities and show such perseverance and courage when having a go at new activities!

What a busy week we've had! We can hardly believe the week has come to an end, with a fantastic assembly voting for our new leaders finishing off our week! Could we please remind all parents to write in any reading that they are doing with their children in their reading record, this includes any books from home as well as their school books, we love hearing about any reading your child is doing!

Have a wonderful weekend!
