Week three has flown by! What a lot we have fitted in.
In Literacy, we continued to think about the story of Cinderella. The children worked very hard to write newspaper reports about what happened at the ball. Next week the children will be starting to write a diary entry pretending to be one of the ugly sisters. They are trying to use all the grammar points that we have been covering - using apostrophes when something belongs to somebody and adding the suffix -ly to make adverbs. In our spelling this week we have also been thinking about how to spell words that end in "el" or "le" such as camel or muddle.
In maths we have been thinking about our ten and fives times tables. We have made arrays and thought about the different facts that we can work out from an array.
In the first picture, there is an array with 2 rows of 5 or 5 columns of 2. From this we know that 2 x 5 = 10 and 5 x 2 = 10. We also now know that 10 divided by 5 is 2 and 10 divided by 2 is 5.
In computing we continued to think about coding. The children created code using code blocks. They had to get bubbles to move in different ways. This week the children looked at adding an "event block" at the start of their code. An event block is a block of code with instructions such as "when clicked". When we use this piece of code, we can then say what will happen using the object and action code blocks.
For example, when clicked (event block), the bubble (the object) will go down (the action).
In science we moved from life cycles of animals to the life cycle of a broad bean. The children played a game to build their own "life cycle" of a bean. They then had to make their own life cycle using this information.
As the days rolled on we were soon onto Thursday and in our Literacy lesson we began exploring the features of diary entries. We just couldn't believe how many different features they had!

With our list in hand, we turned into diary detectives, searching for the different features within Little Red Riding Hoods diary entry!
We can't wait to use the features we have learnt and put them into practice when writing our very own diary entries!
The sun continued to shine for us on Thursday and we certainly needed our water bottles, hats and sun cream, it really is getting to that time of the year! As we continued to enjoy the weather Coach Tom focused this week on developing our throwing skills, using balls to help us develop our accuracy when throwing long distances. Both Year 1 and Year 2 worked really hard to look at where they were throwing the ball and extend their arms as hey their ball!
In RE this week we have continued learning about Judaism and this week we focused on recreating our own Shabbat table, thinking about what we needed to make sure that we followed the rules of Shabbat. We thought carefully about including the two candles that are lit, the Challah bread and the Kiddush cup that is used to drink from, we also made sure we included the most important part of all....the family who complete the Shabbat meal!
Just a few important reminders as we head into the rest of the Summer term! Please remember to ensure your child has a summer hat, water bottle and sun cream with them in school, a water bottle is required everyday but the hat and sun cream can be packed as required.
Could we also remind parents that all children should be bringing a bag to school each day with their reading book and reading record inside so that they can read in school and so that we can change their books each week. We also ask that they read regularly at home with an adult and this is recorded in their reading record.
This doesn't need to be their reading book from school, as we understand children might like to read alternative books but please do record any reading in their reading record.
