We can't believe how quickly another week has gone. We are definitely "living life in all its fullness". We have had forest school, we have carried out investigations and we have celebrated World Book Day.
Monday started with a beautiful afternoon in forest school. Spring was in the air and the sun was shining. The children had great fun playing in the pond, making wands, building nests for birds, making swings and digging for worms! Great fun was had by all!
In science Year 1 and Year 2 investigated materials for making their car in design and technology. They had a go at folding, tearing and squashing different materials. They then had to see how strong different materials were. Although wood was the strongest, it would not be squashed, torn or folded. The cardboard worked out to be the best material. It was stronger than paper and it could be folded, torn or squashed.
In design and technology Year 1 and Year 2 had had a go at finding out about wheels and axles in preparation for making their cars. The children then had a go at making an axle with wheels on it. They then had a go seeing if their axle with wheels worked. What happened to the wheels? They went round at the same speed and in the same direction.
In our daily spelling lessons Year 2 have found out that you write the "o" sound as an "a" after w or qu. For example, squash and wander. In the Literacy lessons we have read the book "The Barnabus Project" by The Fan Brothers which is our focus book at the moment. The children have then completed work linked with this using the prefix "un", for example "unhappy" and conjunctions - words that join ideas and sentences, for example, "but".
In maths, Year 2 have been learning about repeating addition and linking it with the multiplication sign. They created equal groups with equal amount of objects in each group. They could then write a repeating addition such as 5 + 5 + 5 = 15 and then link this to writing 3 x 5 = 15.
We also drew some pictures to represent our ideas.
The day had finally arrived and as the gates opened, we almost didn't recognise each other! From Zog to the Witch from Room on a broom, The Gruffalo to not just one but lots of Harry O'Hays, these were some to name a few...they came through in their colourful costumes but what shone out the most was their eagerness to take part in each and every activity that we had planned for the day. But let's start by introducing our Julia Donaldson characters......
Hmmm there are three more Harry O'Hays!
Three Highway Rats!
Four cats from Tabby McTat!
A Witch, Butterfly and a Mermaid!
A Witch and Zog!
We then enjoyed our reading session with Mr Withers who shared Zog with us......
It was soon our chance to meet Leon Mitchell, author of Felicity Fire and the Forever Key, a real life author....we could hardly believe our eyes!

Kingfishers loved getting the chance to meet an author in person and were thrilled to get his actually signature or "What's that scribble?" as we heard from some Kingfishers!
It was then time to vote for their favourite book in a jar....you could feel the excitement in the room!
Kingfishers were delighted when they then entered the mysterious story tent to explore their books!
You would have thought our day would have come to an end after all that excitement but it was time for us to meet Leon again for another story activity! As we were handed a mysterious stone, it was time to relax and let our imagination take over.....
It was lovely to see the children's excitement as they opened their eyes and saw the glistening gems and stones in their hands, from this their imaginations blossomed and a story bloomed from a tiny mouse that transformed into a tree that could walk and transform into piles of gold, to streams that flowed into the terrifying path of a tornado!
We could hardly believe it but it was then time to go into the hall and take part in a character freeze frame activity with....
Glinda!
The children were mesmerized by not only her presence but by her beautiful singing that transported us all into the magically world of Wicked! Whether they were familiar with the story or the songs or neither it didn't matter, all the children were transfixed by this magical experience and used such lovely detail when drawing Glinda!
What's that I see?
On Friday we could hardly believe our eyes when a miniature version of Rascal was carried out onto the playground! Who could this be? We were full of.....
"awwwwww" "oooooohhhhhhh" "How cute!"
Ms Munday had brought in.....
storm!
He was a beautiful puppy version of Rascal and Rascal was keen to stay right by his side the whole time! He even kept close by when Storm came to see us in our classroom!
Mrs Brown has recently shared with Kingfishers how she has been "Living life in all it's fullness" by getting a new pet over the half term, a new Syrian Hamster who is now just 13 weeks old and called Ninja! As promised here are some pictures of Ninja who really does live up to his name!

What a perfect end to our week, a wonderful celebration of books and then a non uniform day full of learning adventures!
Each week we love hearing how you have been
