During our first week back after the holidays, we have certainly "lived life in all its fullness". The week started off with a fun filled session in forest school. The children had great fun exploring the area, trying to find different cuddly garden birds that were hidden and the children could also try wood whittling. There was lots of fun in the pond which was rather large after so much rain over the winter. There were lots of soggy socks but that just shows the fun that was had!

On Tuesday the children had an amazing time finding out about and celebrating the Hindu festival of Holi. Holi is known as the "Festival of Colours", which celebrates the arrival of spring, love and new life. It also signifies the triumph of good over evil. The children thoroughly enjoyed the dance workshop and then performing their new dances at the end of the day. Year 2 also made a Holi Spring Tree where the blossom was the colour of colours associated with Holi. Holi colours are associated with the emotions and feelings that we feel. The children found out what the colours meant.

Red represents anger.

Green represents jealousy.

Yellow represents happiness.

Pink represents love.

Violet represents knowledge.

Blue represents vastness.

White represents peace.

Orange represents sacrifice.

The highlight of the day was definitely the spreading of coloured powder paint. We had lots of very colourful children and adults and a very colourful playground! Have a look at the pictures of our Holi trees and the dance workshop.

Maths has seen us start a new topic. This is multiplication and division. This week there has been a focus on equal and unequal groups. The children have made equal groups and we discovered if items were in groups of two, we could count them in twos. If items were in groups of five, we could count them in fives. You can't do this if the groups are not equal.

In Literacy we have started our new book. This is called "The Barnabus Project" and it is by The Fan Brothers. This week we have predicted what the book will be about and we have been finding out the meaning of some tricky words that we will come across in the story.

In spelling Year 2 had been thinking about the suffixes -ed and ing. They have learnt that if the root word (the initial word) has a short vowel followed by a consonant, you double the final consonant before adding the suffix. For example, chop, chopped and chopping.

In design and technology, Year 1 and Year 2 have been investigating cars and all the different parts that they have. This is in preparation for them designing and making a car over the next few weeks. Can your child remember the different parts that all cars have?

As we near the end of our first week back we've been lucky enough to been enjoying some much needed sunshine this week, which has meant we have been able to enjoy our very first PE lesson outside! This half term we are learning the skills of football, from how to dribble the ball to passing the ball to each other and then moving onto shooting the ball towards a target! We were very excited to get outside for our first session....

It was lovely to see everyone working so well together and putting so much effort into their PE lesson, we could tell how much they were enjoying themselves!

Just look at the power on that shot!

Next week we will however be taking a short break from our football skills due to it being World Book Day so please remember to come dressed as your Julia Donaldson character rather than your PE kit!

In RE this week we introduced our new question..

What do different Jewish people believe about God?

So we started by looking back at the Creation story and discussed what we thought this told us about what most Jewish people think about God, here's what some of us said...

"God is really clever because he made everything"

"God is kind because he made animals and people"

"God must be good because he helped to made everything for us"

"God is a miracle"

To help us remember the creation story we created our very own creation story wheels, don't they look great!

Next week we've got a very exciting end to our week with World book day on Thursday 5th March so don't forget that for Early years and Key stage One we are asking that everyone comes dressed as your favourite Julia Donaldson character, here are a few reminders of who you could come dressed as....

We can't wait to see all your costumes!

Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy sharing stories at home, remember we love all stories that are shared to be shared with us in your reading records.

We love hearing about your reading adventures!
