We have finally made it to the end of the term. What a busy term it has been! The children have definitely "Lived their life in all its fullness."

This week has seen us finishing off lots of things. In maths we have finished our topic on addition and subtraction. Year 2 have been applying all the skills that they have learnt to solving problems. Next term they will be moving on to multiplication and division so please practice counting in 2s, 5s and 10s over the holidays. You can also help your child / children with learning these tables.

In Literacy, Year 2 have completed their work linked with the story "Lila and the Secret of Rain". The children finished this week by writing a thank you letter to Lila for getting it to rain again. They have also completed a book review, sharing their thoughts and ideas about the book. In phonics, Year 2 have been thinking about "r" spelt as "wr" at the beginning of words.

In computing this week, the children really enjoyed creating repeating patterns. This was the final piece of digital art that the children will be creating for our "digital art" focus that we have had this term. Have a look at some of their lovely patterns!

In science we thought about what we can do to keep our bodies healthy. The children tried out different exercises to see how exercise effects our bodies. We discovered that when we do high energy exercise our hearts beat faster and we start to feel tired. When we do low energy exercises, our hearts don't beat as fast and we can feel calm. The children learnt that all sorts of exercise are good for us. The children recorded how they felt after each form of exercise - running, walking, star jumps and yoga poses.

After we had completed our exercise, we thought about all the things that we can do to keep our body healthy. Eating healthy food, doing exercise, brushing our teeth, getting enough sleep, keeping ourselves clean - there are so many things that we can do. The children then created their own posters for how to keep their body healthy.

It was our final Tag Rugby session as we were keen to demonstrate the skills that Coach Tom had taught us from the moment we started our warm up!

After some speedy turns and dodging from the sharks, we were ready to practice our throwing skills...would we pass high, low or to the left or right?

Wow what a great way to end our Tag Rugby term! Next term we will be moving onto Football!

Children's Mental Health Week

This week has been Children's Mental Health Week, so in Year 1 and 2 we have been exploring how to support our mental health through the theme of 'This is my place'.

On Thursday we celebrated the children's achievements, however big or small they were, taking time to think about what they feel they have achieved this year so far and celebrating these moments.

"I helped fix my Dad's boat"

The children came up with so many different reasons that they felt proud, from ones that led to rewards such as medals or badges.....

"I've gone up a stage in swimming"

To achievements that we have felt within ourselves through our learning in school.....

"I can sit better in class now on the carpet and when I'm doing my learning"

These discussions also provided a wonderful insight into the children's experiences outside of school and the breadth of their achievements beyond the classroom, living life in all it's fullness!

On Friday we continued to explore the theme of 'This is my place', with the children completing their own 'This is my place' map where they drew a place for somewhere that they felt.....

happy

calm

energised

loved

safe

We discussed what each of the emotions meant and then the children began creating their own maps, here are just some of them....

An important announcement for World Book Day on Thursday 5th March, we will be encouraging all children in EYFS/KS1 dressed up as a character from a book by Julia Donaldson! We would love each child to select your favourite Julia Donaldson book and if you have the book then please feel free to bring the book in with you on Thursday 5th March!

Here are just some ideas of who you could dress up as!

Have a wonderful half term holiday, we look forward to hearing all about your adventures when you return!
