What a busy week we have had living life in all its fullness. We can't believe it is only two weeks until half term!
This week in Literacy Year 2 have had a focus on forming plurals. We have looked at adding "s" and "es" to a noun to make it plural. Generally, we add a "s" to the noun to make it plural. However, if the noun ends in x, sh, ch, s, ss, z or zz, we add an "es". The children wrote some sentences linked with Lila and the Secret Of Rain, our focus book for the term. The children wrote about different things that were happening when it started to rain. For example, "The clouds became dark because it was raining". The children are really trying hard to make their sentences more interesting by using words like because.
In our spelling lessons, Year 2 have been thinking about adding "y" to a noun or verb ending in "e". This then changes the word to an adjective. The rule is that you take off the "e" and add a "y". For example, smoke - smoky and shine - shiny.
In Maths Year 2 have continued to work on their addition. The main focus has been adding two 2-digit numbers across a ten. The children have done so well. Have a look at the example below...
Let us have a look at 27 + 46.
Here we make the 27 and 46 using base 10. The key then is to look at the ones. If we have more than 10 ones we can make an exchange, see the photo below.
The children can now clearly see how many tens and ones there are. They can now work out that
27 + 46 = 73.
In science, Year 1 and Year 2 have found out that animals, including humans need lots of things to survive. The most important are AIR, FOOD and WATER. We need other things as well such as shelter, sleep and exercise. However, we can live for a while without certain things but we can't live for long if we don't have air, water or food. The children used an online digital book to help them find this out.
In computing Year 1 and Year 2 have continued to think about digital art. This week the children were able to create pieces of art by drawing lines and blocks of colour. Their digital paintings were in the style of Piet Mondrian.
In art, Year 1 and Year 2 continued to develop their skills of showing light and dark colours and textures in their drawings. This week they were introduced to the concept of "perspective". They learnt that objects at the "front" of the picture are bigger than those at the "back" of the picture. The children were also introduced to our focus artist for the term, John Constable. He enjoyed painting landscape pictures of the countryside. To link in with this, the children had a go at copying a picture of a field with hay bales. They worked hard to show perspective in their drawings.
Tag rugby time!
It was soon time for our weekly Tag Rugby skills to be developed and this week we were continuing to develop our tagging skills!
After a little warm up, it was time to put some skills into a practice and work in 3's! This time two of us had to work against each other with a 'tree' in the middle, while the third player was the referee. When the referee said go the two players had to keep their feet either side of their cone and using their hands try to reach around the 'tree' to take the tag from their opponent!
Who would be the first one to get a tag?
As we reached Friday it was time for another Bible story and this week we continued to discuss the idea of a miracle through the Bible story....

The feeding of the five thousand
How is this example of a miracle?
How did Jesus feed 5 thousand people?
Do you think you could feed 5 thousand people? Why? Why not?
Kingfishers loved playing loaves and fishes to represent the feeding of the five thousand! The question is though, did we really feed five thousand?
We finished our week celebrating our achievements, however big or small it's always so important to remember that each and every one of us have achieved so much already!
Let's take a look at just some of the achievements that our children feel they have made....
"I have made it to stage 4 in swimming and have improved in my Rugby"
"I have been doing some really big jumps on my new horse"
"I have been improving my writing and am now more independent"
"I can now sit for longer on the carpet and am better at listening"
"I have become more confident at riding my bike"
"I got a certificate for completing the reading challenge"
"I got a leaf for showing courage"
"I got a silver plate for horse riding and other rosettes"
These were just a few of the achievements, we can't wait to show you more next week!
Next week we have two important dates for your diary! On Wednesday we have our Candlemas Service at church and then on Friday we are all very excited to be celebrating Number Day 2026!

We are encouraging all children to come in next Friday 6th November dressed in a number themed outfit and join in the number fun activities that will be going on throughout the school day, all in aid of the NSPCC! Let's make next Friday count!
Here are some ideas!
Have a wonderful weekend, we can't wait to see what numbertastic costumes you create for next Friday! Don't forget to share whatever reading you do in your reading records, we love to hear about the different books you have been exploring!
