22nd May '26

Well, we have made it to half term. We can't believe that there is only one more term of this academic year to go.

The week started on Monday with the children continuing to think about time. We were making sure that we were drawing the correct sized hands on the clocks for o'clock, half past, quarter to an quarter past. The hour hand is the shorter hand (hour is a short word) and the minute hand is the longer hand (minute is a longer word). We have also been thinking about minutes pat the hour, for example 5 past and 10 past.

In computing the children were learning how to add objects to a background. They could make them bigger or smaller and they also learnt how to get rid of any objects that they didn't want.

Wednesday was "No Pens Day". All learning was done without using a pen or pencil! There were games in phonics / spelling, games in maths and making times on clocks. In Literacy we acted out the story of Prince Cinders and then in the afternoon there was art.

In art, the children created the heads for their sculptures. They used air dry clay. Once the clay has dried, they will be able to bring their sculptures home! They have worked very hard on them and they have had some lovely ideas.

The sunshine and warmth had finally arrive but we were still firmly in Antarctica and both Year One and Year Two loved creating their very own pastel pictures of this ice continent once they had finished their mini Antarctica's, ready to go onto our brand new display board that we were proud to show to the rest of the school!

We're sure you'll agree that with our mini Antarctica's and the pastel artwork, our display board is complete!

Firebird time!

We had reached the final day of the first half of our Summer Term and what a better way to celebrate but to go on a special trip to watch Firebird at Sheepdrove in Lambourn.

With the excitement rising we all carefully searched for how many sheep we could spot on the drive up to the conference centre- well it was called Sheepdrove after all!

As we arrived at Sheepdrove, it was time for lunch! With the sun shining we all enjoyed a well earned picnic together before settling inside to watch Firebird, which was simply amazing! These are just some photos from our last day of term together....

We have sent home some common exception words for our Year 2's to practice over the half term with attached ideas of how you could practice them together so please do check your child's bag and keep on reading with them over half term as they have had a change of reading book this week, if they have brought their reading book in. Any kind of reading, a story book, information book, even a magazine can be recorded in their reading records so please do share with us what reading they have done.

With the sun set to keep shining for half term we hope that you all have a wonderful week off and share some lovely family days together!

We look forward to hearing how you've been 'living life in all its fullness'
