What a busy, busy week we have had! The week started off with our "Great Fire of London" activities. We started off with the children coming to school all dressed in red, yellow and orange. They all looked brilliant and the colours really set the scene. Thank you to all of you for your support with these outfits!

Our first activity was making bread just like Thomas Farriner did in the bakery in Pudding Lane. The children really enjoyed kneading the bread which they all took home at the end of the day.

The next activity on Monday was to make a street of houses, just as it would have looked like. The children worked very hard on their buildings which we then turned into a huge class collage...

We had to go to the hall to create the row of houses as we needed such a long piece of paper. The children really enjoyed this!

The next day the fire started and spread rather quickly with some very busy children painting! We also completed the houses that the children started last Friday.

We finished off our "Great Fire of London" activities with some water races. We pretended the football goal was some houses. In the first race the children had to run with cups of water to put out the fire. We pretended the cups were buckets. The next race involved squirting water, just like they did in the Fire of London to try and put out the fire. We had great fun!

We have also managed to do some maths and science as well this week! In maths, the children worked with a partner to solve some problems using lots of skills that they have learnt this year. From number bonds, to counting in 2s, 5s and 10s and even shape. The children all worked very nicely with their partner, sharing their thoughts and ideas.

In science, we came to the end of our topic on habitats. We had a go at creating some food chains. The children found out that if there was not enough food in a part of a food chain, the animals might move to another habitat as a habitat needs to provide air, shelter, water and food.

We had done it.....we had reached the final Friday of not only the Summer Term but also the final Friday of Year One for some of us and Year Two for the rest of us and what a fantastic Friday we had!

Cotswold wildlife park!

As Kingfishers can rushing through the gate you could feel the excitement in the air, their backpacks were almost bursting at the seams, from lunches to just in case raincoats, water bottles to 'snacks to keep me going', there was something in there for almost ever occasion and anything Kingfishers didn't have, Mrs Brown certainly did!

We were soon on the coach and travelling up towards the motorway, "When will we get there?"' soon turned into giggles and little games being played, it was only when the sight of the Cotswold cottages started to appear that questions soon began again "How long until we get there?"......"Are we there yet?"......despite not seeing a Zebra or Rhino in sight, this continued for the next 20 minutes......then all of sudden we turned the bend and the sign Cotswold Wildlife Park came into sight!

Our first stop was of course the PENGUINS! We were particularly fascinated by 3 of them who appeared to be tempted to put on a diving show for us but unfortunately never did!

Kingfishers had already shared how for a lot of them the Penguins were one of their favourite animals and it certainly showed as we were truly fascinated watching them swimming through their pond area and simply lazing about on their own beach!

Onward we went to see the Meercats and the Prairie Dogs, both of which seem to be enjoying not only the warm weather but also their sandy habitats!

Just look how well that they camouflage into their habitats- can you spot them?

Where would we go next? With a map in Mrs Browns hands we were off and we were lucky enough to see some very cheeky monkeys who had come out to play!

As we continued to move around we had arrived at the Rainforest! We had to be very careful not to allow any animals to escape through the door as we moved inside as there were birds moving freely inside!

Kingfishers stayed amazingly calm and walked slowly through, mesmerized by the beautiful birds that were flying and walking all around the Rainforest area!

It was now time for the BIG animals and Kingfishers were excited to put it mildly! On route we were lucky enough to see the Land Tortoise or actually make that 3 of them! As we got there just before Red Kites, the Zoo Keeper was on hand to go in and it was lovely see how gentle and affection the Tortoises are!

FUN FACT- This one is the youngest and it is 38!

We even were lucky enough to see a sleeping lion on our travels today.....

It was then time for a little snack before literacy heading up to the Giraffes!

Tall and elegant, they were certainly another of our favourite animals to see....time for a group photo I think!

Rhinos.......

Flamingos and Pelicans.....what could be next?

As it all suddenly went quiet....quieter than we have ever heard Kingfisher go, we could only be heading to one place.....the Wolf enclosure!

We couldn't believe how lucky we were to see one sleeping in the shade!

You're never going to believe that all of this had been achieve before lunch! It was now most certainly time to enjoy some food and most importantly an ice-cream!

What a better to celebrate our time at the park but to have a lovely train ride!

As we set off we were not only looking for the animals in the wild but also the classes in the wild! We managed to spot ever class apart from Robins!

Kingfishers had the most fantastic day at Cotswold Wildlife Park, they were energetic, respectful to those around them and their listening skills were impeccable! It was an absolute pleasure to spend the day at this amazing wildlife park with them so a massive thank you from Mrs Brown to Kingfishers for making today so special and also this year so special!

Thank you also to all the adult helpers who came, we couldn't have done it without you!

Have a wonderful weekend and we will see you for 2 final days next week!
