Another week has flown by and the children have continued to be very busy! The children have written their own stories this week linked with "Jack and the Beanstalk". We have had candy canes growing, strawberry plants, sunflowers. What amazing authors the children have been. They have used lots of adjectives to make their writing really interesting. You should be very proud of all your children.

In maths we have continued thinking about fractions. We have been recognising a 1/4 and a 1/3 of a shape. The children have also coloured in 1/4s and 1/3s of shapes and they have worked out 1/4s and 1/3s of a small amount. The children have learnt that the bottom number of the fraction is how many parts the whole will be split into. The top number of the fraction tells us how many parts of the whole it is. 1/4 is one of the 4 parts. 1/3 is 1 of the 3 parts.

When finding a 1/4 or a 1/3 of a small amount we used bar models to help us. The top bar was the "whole" and the bar underneath was split into 3 or 4 depending on whether or not the children were finding a 1/3 or a 1/4 of the whole amount.

In computing the children have been improving the tune of "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star". They have added sound effects to it, changed the speed and also changed the volume of different parts of the song. What a musical lesson!

In design and technology the children have continued to think about structures. The children were given the challenge of making a bridge with some lego. They worked in pairs and had some lovely ideas. Next week we will talk about their bridges, compare them with some pictures and they will be finding out about London Bridge.

We had reached the end of the penultimate week and the sun had not just returned but it had returned with some heat to it! As our Friday got underway Mrs Brown introduced new, exciting, knock your socks of kind of game that was sure to go down in Kingfisher history!

Which one is the right one?

As 9 words appeared on the board our minds were whirling with questions like "surely Mrs Brown can't think that's how you spell that word?" Kingfishers couldn't tell whether the computer had malfunctioned or whether Mrs Brown hadn't been listening in Robins phonics lessons this week! Thankfully Mrs Brown just trying to get our minds whirling and our conversations flowing about which words were spelt correctly and why!

As we wrote the words that were spelt correctly on our boards, we talked about how we knew!

"I know because I've spelt that word before and I know you write it like that"

"I've seen that word lots of times and that's how it's written"

"I sounded it out and I know what sounds it has in it"

Extreme weather!

Our Friday was simply whizzing by and we were soon ready for our Geography, which at the moment has really captured the interest of all of Kingfishers! They are simply captivated through the discussions and exploration of extreme weather and enjoy not only learning about the different types of extreme weather, watching what this looks like but also they enjoy finding out the causes of extreme weather.

From hurricanes to floods, droughts and to an avalanche, Kingfishers are becoming official weather watchers, able to identify the extreme weather and also say facts about it! Why not have a look at the pictures together and see how many they can tell you about?

We then created our very own posters to show how we could keep cool in a heatwave!

As we made out way outside it was time for a new game! This week our coach at come up with a farmer game which tested our ball skills and not just any ball skills but out bowling skills, which for some of us proved to be a little bit trickier than our throwing skills but we persevered and extremely enjoyed dodging the balls, as we were only safe when we were on the spots......but watch out as the farmer could take them away!

Just look at how successfully we were able to negotiate the space, avoiding the obstacles around us and keeping ourselves safe!

What a fantastic end to our day in Kingfishers! With the sun still shining and set to continue over the weekend we hope that you all have a wonderful weekend, making memories together in the sunshine and come back on Monday refreshed and ready for the final week of this half term together!
