We have had another very busy week. We can't believe that there is just over one week left! We still have lots more to do!
In Literacy we completed our mind maps about the Great Fire Of London. Next week we will be using these facts on our mind maps to help us create a fact file.
Maths has seen us continuing to think about statistics and data. On Monday we made a class pictogram of favourite ice cream flavours in Kingfishers. Have a look at our class pictogram that we created.
Which was the most popular flavour of ice cream in Kingfishers?
Which was the least popular flavour?
Sports Day on Tuesday was great fun! The children were amazing and earned lots of points! They were also very supportive of each other. Well done Kingfishers! Here are a few photos of the children having a go at the egg and spoon race prior to Sports Day.
It was so lovely to see Kingfishers coming together as a class and cheering each other on in their houses, we saw perseverance and a true sense of community shine through!
Despite the heat Kingfishers did not stop smiling and loved whatever race came their way, putting their all into every single race, but also enjoyed some downtime too with Rascal!
ready......steady......go!
A quick look a back before crossing the finish line!
The day of course ended with a new race which both the parents and teachers took part in, leading to a very wet Mrs Harris and Mrs Brown!
In science we continued thinking about habitats. We took our learning to the outdoor classroom and the children worked in pairs. They had to choose a habitat from around the world - the ocean, the desert or the rainforest, They then had to help each other to read the fact file about their chosen place. Finally the children had to create posters about the habitat that they had found out about.
Did you know that in the desert animals often get their water from the food that they eat?
We were riding the wave of a heatwave at the end of the week and we were most certainly feeling it and as we entered our second morning of transition we were exciting to hear what we would be doing in preparation or being joined by Robins! To make the transition as smooth as possible this year we are introducing a bubby system where each Kingfisher will be a bubby to a Robin, they will be responsible for checking in with them and just generally make sure that they are okay, really taking our Christian value of community and putting it in practice!
With this in mind we spend the first part of the money creating welcome cards for our buddies! Kingfishers blew up away with how much time and consideration they spent on their cards, thinking carefully about what they would tell their buddy about themselves from what they liked to do in their spare time to what their favourite food was.....cake, chocolate....you name it we had it!
We even had some inspiration messages on the front of the cards!
"You are pretty the way you are"
In the afternoon it was time to recreate the Bakery from The Great Fire of London! Once we had all settled on a box and mastered how to create a roof, it was time to create the wood effect on the buildings, enter.......
The one the only Mrs Browns masking tape trick!
At times it was sticky, at times it wasn't sticky enough! But we were soon mastering it.....
Onto the painting we went!
Next week we will be ready to add the fire....orange and yellow tissue paper!
We can't believe another week is over and as we edge cover to the last full week of the year we have so much to look forward to.........
- On Monday we will watching Red Kites perform the dress rehearsal of their play to the whole school!
- Don't forget that on Monday and Tuesday next week, the children can come to school wearing clothes in the colours of red, yellow and orange for our Great Fire Of London activities. On Monday, please ensure that your child has an apron in school as we will be making gluten free, vegan soda bread.
- On Tuesday, please remember to send your child in with a change of clothes just in case they get wet when having our water races! (School uniform will be ok for the change of clothes or more clothes in yellow, red and orange)
- On Friday, please remember that we are going on our whole school trip to the Cotswold wildlife Park! We are leaving at 9am and are aiming to be returning at 3.15pm. Please make sure your child is in school uniform and also has sensible footwear; they may wear trainers. If the weather is hot, please make sure they have a hat and sun cream has been applied. If the weather is cold and wet, please make sure they have a waterproof coat.
- The children will need to bring a packed lunch, or pre-order a school packed lunch. They must bring with them plenty to drink (no fizzy drinks or glass bottles please) and two healthy snacks.
- Please indicate on the linked Google Form if you would like school to provide a lunch and please ensure your school packed lunch orders are placed on school grid by Monday 14th July.
Please make sure you talk to your child about our exciting trip next Friday, take time to look at the website with them and discuss what they might see when we go there. For some children visiting a new place can daunting especially if it is with a large group so it can help them if they feel prepared. The website provides a map and pages on the different animals that you can explore and discuss together. We will also be sharing a social story about a trip together in class. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to ask.
