Term 6 Week 5
Welcome Back!
It was lovely to welcome everyone back after the two-day school closure due to the hot weather. Thank you to everyone who completed some of the optional home learning activities. The children settled straight back into their learning and enjoyed another busy week in Owls Class.
English
This week, we began writing our biographies about William Shakespeare. The children used all the research they had gathered over the past few weeks, along with the key features of a biography, to write their own pieces. I was really impressed with the quality of their writing and how confidently they included facts about Shakespeare's life. Here are a few examples of their fantastic work.
Maths
In Maths, we began our new topic on time. The children have been learning the difference between analogue and digital clocks and practising how to tell the time accurately. We have also been discussing how to read clocks to the nearest minute. This is a skill that benefits from regular practice, so if you have the opportunity, encouraging your child to tell the time at home will really help to build their confiden
Sports Day
The highlight of our week was undoubtedly Sports Day! The sunshine returned, making it the perfect day for everyone to come together and enjoy a morning of fun, teamwork and friendly competition.
The event began with a warm-up led by our fantastic Year 6 PE Leaders, who did a brilliant job of getting everyone moving and ready for the challenges ahead. The children then took part in a variety of events, including target archery, basketball shooting, relay races and many more. It was wonderful to see everyone encouraging one another, showing great determination and cheering on their teammates.
Congratulations to Arlington (Red Team), who finished the day as our overall winners after scoring the highest number of points. Well done to every child for taking part with such enthusiasm and demonstrating excellent sportsmanship throughout the morning.
To finish the event, there was a very entertaining parents versus teachers race involving wet sponges and buckets of water! Despite the teachers' best efforts, the parents claimed victory this year. Congratulations to all the parents who took part and helped make the morning such a memorable one!
A huge thank you to everyone who came along to support the children. Your encouragement and cheers from the sidelines made the day even more special.
Looking ahead to next week, the weather is forecast to be very warm. Please ensure your child comes to school wearing their PE kit each day, along with a named water bottle, sun hat and sun cream already applied before school. Thank you for your continued support
