Term 5 Week 1
Welcome back, Owls!
It has been such a lovely start to the new half term. The children have come back settled, focused and ready to learn, which has made for a really positive week.
We kicked off our learning on Monday with Maths, where we began our new unit on fractions. We have been focusing on understanding numerators and denominators, and what they represent. The children explored this practically through an NRICH activity, where they folded strips to compare different fractions. This hands-on approach really helped them to visualise their learning and deepen their understanding.
We were also very excited to begin Forest School this week. The weather has been beautiful, and the children have loved being outdoors. One of the highlights was spotting our very first ducklings in the pond, which created a real buzz of excitement. It has been wonderful to see the children exploring, collaborating and enjoying nature together.
Another big highlight this week has been the start of our swimming lessons at Hungerford Leisure Centre. The children completed their baseline swimming assessments and have been grouped accordingly. They have approached this with great enthusiasm and confidence, and it has been fantastic to see them supporting one another in the water.
This week, we have started our new class novel, Charlotte’s Web. The children are already hooked on the story and have enjoyed getting to know the characters, particularly Wilbur and Fern. We are looking forward to exploring this beautiful and thought-provoking text further over the coming weeks.
It has also been assessment week, and I have been incredibly proud of how the children have approached this. They have shown great determination and resilience, which links perfectly to our school value this week: perseverance. They have worked hard, kept going even when things felt challenging, and should feel very proud of themselves.
