Term 2 Week 4

28 Nov 25

What an incredible week it’s been in Owls!

We kicked things off on Monday with another brilliant Forest School session. The children made their own wooden hedgehogs using nails and hammers and showed fantastic care and concentration while using the tools. They didn’t stop there either. They built tents, climbed trees, created hammocks, played with dried leaves and enjoyed plenty of imaginative outdoor play. I’ll be sharing photos of their creations very soon.

On Wednesday we took a lovely walk to the village to decorate the village Christmas tree. The children had made their own decorations in class beforehand, and seeing them proudly hang their creations on the tree was a real heart-warming moment for everyone.

In Maths we’ve been focusing on subtraction with exchange. The Year 4s have now mastered the column method and have been tackling reasoning questions to deepen their understanding. Our Year 3s have been using concrete resources like counters and place value charts to help them see how the exchange works. It felt tricky at first, but their confidence grew with each lesson.

In PSHE the children explored the idea of a “nightmare school” versus a “dream school”. They created drawings to represent what makes a school a happy and positive place. I was so proud to see how many of their ideas reflected our school values, from respect and compassion to community, kindness and having teachers who support them.

We’ve also started rehearsing for our Christmas carols and the excitement is very real. You can feel the buzz across the classroom every time the music starts.

It’s been a busy and joyful week, and the children have thrown themselves into every moment. Well done, Owls!
